Barbara wrote stories and poems for her young children as birthday and Christmas presents. One of those stories was about how Santa Claus saves three children adrift on the sea on Christmas Eve. The title was “Christmas Cay.” The word “cay” is Bahamian for small island, pronounced like “key” as in the Florida Keys. Barbara revisited her writings during the lockdown of the 2020 pandemic and changed the short story into a poem inspired by E. Clement Moore’s classic “A Visit from St. Nicholas,” or as it is more famously known, “Twas the Night Before Christmas.”
"Santa's Secret Island" is the much- revised version of what started out as a Christmas story by a mom who wanted her children to keep the magic of Santa Claus alive in their hearts.
Anyone who wants to believe in Santa Claus and flying reindeer and toy-making elves and mermaids and an island in The Bahamas protected by a mystical spell will enjoy “Santa’s Secret Island.”
